Learning Outcomes
- Adapt communication modes to audiences
- Convey clarity with compassion
- Influence through listening focus
Adapting communication styles
Care planning and discussions span different stakeholders which require tailored communications approaches. At a care review meeting the Independent Reviewing Officer will chair the meeting, which is more formal in nature. Sometimes family members also attend, and active listening and considered language is helpful to avoid conflict.
Supporting the child’s voice and understanding is key (in keeping with their age etc.). Here adapting vocabularies and mediums aligned to children’s abilities, wishes and needs enables child centred communication and positive influence.
Influencing Through Active Listening
Advocates balance patience and lean-in curiosity, drawing contextual clarity over quick-fix solutions.
